I am constantly hearing from my new clients, " This is our first shoot, I'm not sure?" . Not to worry, I have been putting together a list of ideas to ensure you have the best shoot possible!
- Choose your location wisely- A waterfall is a great location for engagement photos, or perhaps senior photos, but your new baby may not like it. Try to find a location that fits your needs, style, and vision.
- Hydrate- Drink lots of water before your shoot! This will give you more energy, and a beautiful glow the day of your photoshoot.
- Practice your pose- This may sound silly to some, but remember practice makes perfect! This will help you get more acquainted with your most comfortable and best pose. The more comfortable you are with a pose the better you will wear it, so get in front of a mirror and work it!
- Communicate- Talking to your photographer will give you both a good sense of what to expect from each other. Your photographer will love to hear any ideas you want to try during your shoot.
- Lay out your outfits the day before- This is a great way to make sure your clothes compliment each other and yourself of course! This will also eliminate wrinkles from your clothes.
- Bring hair accessories and make up- Your hair and makeup should be done when you arrive to your shoot, but bring the essentials for touchups.
- Eat before your shoot- A hungry face is not a happy face.
- HAVE FUN- This is by far the most important tip of all. When your heart smiles, it shines through your eyes straight to the camera! Nothings is more beautiful than a picture of happy people.
Hello AHP family! We have some first time mommies coming up! In light of this we are posting some preparation tips and tricks!
-what to have on hand-
*Pacifier! Im not sure why but babies think their delicious!
*extra bottle
*beanie or hat/bows or headbands
*any heirlooms keepsakes toys letters blocks framed pictures of distant relatives or otherwise, anything you would want photos of your newborn with!
*spit up and receiving blankets! lots and lots!
-before your shoot-
*try to keep your baby up for a couple extra hours so they are nice and sleepy when i arrive
*give your baby a full feeding about 20-30 minutes before my arrival this will help make him/her sleepy as well as cut down on spit up and upset tummies! (breast mommies please avoid hot or spicy foods the day before and of your shoot, upset tummies make for unhappy babies.)
*an hour before my arrival loosen your infants diaper and clothing to prevent wrinkles and elastic marks. stay away from socks mittens and any clothing i will have to remove by pulling over baby's head.
*bring on the heat! Turn your heater up or have space heaters and heat pads ready for use. Your baby will sleep deep and comfortably between 80-85 degrees.
* please have your hands/nails/feet clean as we may use your hands or feet in photos with your baby.
*if you are planning on being in photos with your newborn wear plain clothing with no logos or patterns, preferably black or white.
-during your shoot-
*if your newborns have siblings you wish to include they should be in light or pastel colored clothing. we will take these at the beginning of the shoot.
*patience is key. newborn photos take a great deal of time so please be patient, it will pay off in the end!
*having a quiet and calm environment is very important to a successful newborn shoot. I cannot stress how important it is for you to be cool calm and collected, your baby will sense any distress.
*if you have any concerns about posing, speak up! if your uncomfortable with any position, just say so. we will change to the next pose no questions asked!
*have something to entertain yourself. as i stated before this shoots are time consuming so have a phone laptop book or word search at the ready.
*once more just in case you missed it, cool calm and collected! relaxed mommies have relaxed babies!
As always if you have any questions or concerns feel free to message me at anytime! Thank you!
